How to select a Water Feature pump
By Water Feature we mean a self contained or re-circulating ornamental type water feature which tend to be on the smaller side and often used indoors or on patios. These pumps (in fact any small pump like these) are totally unsuitable for a pond environment. This kind of pump is normally in a small box and has a short length of cable. Even when this type of pump does have a longer cable making them suitable for outdoor use they are still not recommended for any real pond use.
A quick check other than the size of the box is the guarantee ... normally this is limited to 1 year (we increase this to 2 years in view of our long experience with these pumps)
The general selection rule is based upon the height the water must be pumped. This height is measured form the water surface (NOT bottom) where the pump is submersed up to the inlet at the top of the water feature. To get satisfactory flow then choose a pump that has a maximum head equal to about twice this value.
It is very difficult to give better general guidelines than this because there is a vast number of different features available.
Use This Chart To Check Model You Need ... measure height to top of waterfall from POND SURFACE (not bottom of pond) Once you measure height decide on flow you want (bottom axis) and then select the pump you need from where the two points intersect on the graph. You can also use this same chart for deciding upon an Easy Jet pump model
